Nara boxing | Where Champions Rise

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Conor Benn revealed that negotiations are underway for a potential bout against Chris Eubank Jr. This clash, expected to take place in February 2025, has the makings of one of the most significant fights in British boxing history.

The rivalry between Benn and Eubank Jr. evokes the legendary clashes between their fathers, Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr., adding a rich historical layer to this anticipated showdown.

From Cancellation to Comeback

This fight was initially set for 2022 but was canceled after Conor Benn failed two anti-doping tests shortly before the event. In November 2024, the National Anti-Doping Panel lifted Benn’s provisional suspension, citing insufficient evidence from UKAD to prove his guilt.

While Benn awaits a decision from the British Boxing Board of Control on reinstating his license, he has expressed confidence in returning to the ring in the UK.

“I believe negotiations have started,” Benn said. “It’s been very turbulent in terms of the legal case, but now that that’s cleared, negotiations are on the way.”

The Legacy Factor

Benn highlighted the fight’s significance in terms of family legacy and British boxing history.

“It’s one of the biggest British domestic fights in history. I don’t think two fathers and two sons have ever fought like this. It’s about history. It’s about legacy,” Benn stated.

Promoter Ben Shalom echoed Benn’s sentiments, emphasizing the event’s potential to fill any stadium in the UK.

Weight and Terms Agreed

Conor Benn has shown flexibility in negotiations, agreeing to fight at middleweight (160 pounds), Chris Eubank Jr.’s regular category. Benn has also conceded privileges, allowing Eubank Jr. to have top billing and enter the ring second.

“You can have Eubank-Benn, you can have the home corner, I’m not petty about all that,” Benn stated.

However, Benn has made specific demands, including the absence of the three-knockdown rule and an 18-foot ring.

Preparation and Expectations

Benn’s trainer, Tony Sims, confirmed that his fighter is ready and better prepared than he was two years ago.

“Eubank’s got the advantage in weight, obviously, but I think Conor’s got the advantage in youth. It’s more of an even playing field than it was two years ago,” Sims explained.

Eubank Jr., 35, last fought on October 12, 2024, at middleweight, while Benn’s last outing was a welterweight contest on February 24, 2024.

Backup Plans and Future Prospects

If the fight with Eubank Jr. does not materialize, Benn has a contingency plan that includes a potential title fight against Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight belt.

“Hopefully we can make the Barrios fight, if it isn’t Eubank next,” Benn said. “Fight Barrios for the WBC world title February, March. I’m just excited to be back.”

A Fight for the Ages

If finalized, this fight promises to be a landmark event in British boxing, rekindling a family rivalry while creating a new chapter in the sport’s history. Both fighters stand to solidify their legacies, making this bout a must-watch for fans worldwide.
